About CBT Clinic

Our Services
CBT Clinic believes in tailoring therapy to meet the needs of the individual...
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy:
CBT is a time-limited, structured approach to understanding unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving, and how these maintain difficult emotions such as anxiety and depression. CBT is an evidence based therapy for various mental health conditions such as Depression; Social Anxiety; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; Illness Anxiety Disorder; GAD; adjustment difficulties; chronic pain; Panic; low self-esteem.
With the therapist, you begin to apply tools which may be behavioural or cognitive to promote change and reduce discomfort.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of therapy that aims to improve psychological flexibility by helping individuals accept difficult thoughts and feelings and commit to actions aligned with their values.
Key Principles of ACT:
-
Cognitive Defusion:
ACT helps individuals distance themselves from their thoughts, recognizing them as just thoughts, not necessarily facts.
-
Values:
ACT helps individuals identify what is truly important to them and guides them to take actions aligned with those values.
-
Committed Action:
ACT encourages individuals to commit to taking actions that are consistent with their values, even when it means facing difficult emotions.
-
Mindfulness:
ACT emphasizes paying attention to the present moment and accepting thoughts and feelings without judgment.
-
Acceptance:
Instead of trying to change or control difficult thoughts and feelings, ACT encourages individuals to acknowledge and accept them as part of the human experience.
Compassion Focussed Therapy:
Compassion Focussed Therapy developed by Professor Paul Gilbert, combines social psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, evolutionary psychology and neuroscience to make sense of our tricky brains, and patterns which have developed as a result of experience. We begin by developing a deeper understanding of our threat system, purpose, function, and the importance of this system within daily life, whilst also beginning to understand the difference of two regulatory systems - Drive system & Caring/soothing system.
CFT is useful for a wide range of difficulties, but is particularly useful for individuals who hold shame and are self-critical.
